UP tanners meet
The twelfth annual general meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Leather Industries Association (UPLIA), Kanpur, elected the following office bearers: Taj Alam, president; Mohammad Moin Lari, vice president; Iftekharul Amin, general secretary. The outgoing president was S M Shahid.
The following new panel chairmen were elected: Maqsood Alam, chairman, export promotion and infrastructure development panel. Alhaj Rizwanullah, chairman, finished leather panel (tanneries). Rakesh Suri, chairman, footwear panel. Mohammad Iftekhar, chairman, saddlery panel. The executive committee consists of S M Shahid, Iqbal Akhtar and Mohammad Ishaq.
After the AGM proceedings, senior scientists (environment) of the Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, Dr Ravindra Nath, Dr Swatanra Rajan and Dr A Garg, addressed the members and explained about present environment norms and possibilities for laying down a new sewer line at Jajmau and the expansion and modification of the CETPs installed at Jajmau, Unnao and Banthar leather clusters.
