Chemical suppliers hall at Tanning Tech 2009

‘Defy the recession with an eye to the future’. This was Assomac’s slogan during the Tanning Tech and Simac trade fairs, held in Bologna October 13-15. Assomac, organisers of the tannery and footwear machinery shows say that the exhibition signalled a strong response to the difficult circumstances worldwide. However, both shows were much smaller than in the past and only a handful of new or updated machinery was shown following a difficult year for the sector.

In a press statement released on October 28 Assomac said: ‘The most surprising positive indication came on the second day of the event, when average visitor numbers were far higher than expected.’ However, the other two days of the show were much quieter.
Assomac and ICE invited a number of official foreign delegations to attend and as a result the signing of major sales contracts between some delegation members and exhibiting companies took place. More than 70 footwear, leathergoods and tanning operators came from all over the world from Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Syria, Uruguay, Tunisia and Vietnam.
Also at Tanning Tech this year was the official international launch and presentation of the new association and its member companies, UPAC. The new association was formed by the Italian leather chemical companies.
