APLF underway

The 26th edition of the APLF got underway today at the HKCEC in Hong Kong. Speaking at the opening press conference APLF show director, Michael Duck said the mood in the leather industry, particularly in Asia was much better than last year and that everyone was more optimistic.

'China, India and Indonesia in particular, are doing very well led by consumer confidence and optimism', said Duck. 'More mature markets such as Europe and North America as well as Latin America were quieter than in Asia but generlly speaking market conditions had improved compared with 2009.

The APLF covers 3 halls of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and most of the tanning and raw materials sector is located in the recently extended hall 1 of the show under the name of Materials Manufacturing & Technology MM&T. This year sees major group pavillions from Pakistan, China, India, Italy, Turkey and Thailand. In all, there are 20 group pavillions and a total of 1007 exhibitors from 48 countries covering 21,000 sq m.

At this years show the organisers have focussed on fashion and upholstery leather (furniture and automotive) where 149 exhibitors have been given an 'Upholstery & Automotive Mark' to allow them them to stand out.

As well as MM&T APLF also incorporates both the Fashion Access and Prime Source events.
