ETSC named Tannery of the Year
Pittards Ethiopia Tannery Share Company (ETSC) from Ethiopia have been awarded as the first Tannery of the Year (2009) at an awards dinner and ceremony held in Hong Kong on March 29. ETSC were chosen from a final shortlist of five regional winners by a panel of six judges following final presentations which were made during the APLF event in Hong Kong earlier on the same day.
John Moriarty of Pittards UK and members of ETSC from Ethiopia accepted the award on behalf of the company following a gala dinner held at a venue in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibitions Centre. The regional finalists and winners were as follows:

Curtiembres Fonseca, Argentina (regional winner)
Procesos Humedos, Mexico
Asia (excluding China):

Simona Tanning, Huizhou (regional winner)
Europe:
Bridge of Weir, Scotland (regional winner)
Josef Heinen, Germany
The event was organised by World Trades Publishing, publishers of World Leather and the criteria for judging the winner was based on sustainability, corporate and social responsibility including environmental best practice. It was felt by the judges that ETSC best represented that brief.
