Prime deal goes through
Following a meeting of local residents in the town of Hartland, Maine, Tasman Industries have acquired Prime Tanning for $6.5 million.
During the Hartland residents meeting on February 12 they voted in favour 196-14 to approve a new cost-sharing agreement for the municipal wastewater treatment facility between the town and the tannery’s new owners. The agreement to reduce the tannery’s share of the costs will translate into a higher municipal tax rate but also means the more than 150 people employed by Prime Tanning will keep their jobs. The tannery is the largest employer in the town.
Prime Tanning will change its name to Tasman Leather Group from February 14. Norman Tasman, president of Tasman Industries, and several other company representatives spoke to residents during the meeting about the company’s plans and answered numerous questions from residents.
Tasman have hide processing operations throughout North America as well as operations in China, Taiwan and Mexico.
