Friendship Tannery to open in April
Friendship Tannery, a new tannery being built by Chinese investors in Ethiopia with a soaking capacity of 15,000 hides and skins per day, is expected to start production in April 2011.
The Friendship Tannery is built on 40,000 sq m site in Modjo, which is located 83 kilometres from Addis Ababa.
When the tannery becomes fully operational, it is expected to create 600 jobs and will produce finished garment, glove and shoe upper leather.
The investors have also said that they are about to secure an additional 20,000 sq m of land in Akaki, located 37km from Addis Ababa, to construct a shoe and glove factory.
For both factories in Ethiopia, the company plan to make a total investment of $8.3 million.
