Capacity increase for Dow leather finish component
The Performance Monomers business of The Dow Chemical Company announced on September 7 a 15% increase in their capacity to produce 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate (2-EHA) at its Hahnville, Louisiana facility. This results from a successful removal of a bottleneck that addresses Dow’s need to increase 2-EHA capacity for its domestic customers as well as deliver innovation improvements to further improve reliability and sustainability. 2-EHA is used in leather finishing formulations.
Chad Holzer, North America Business Director for Performance Monomers states, ‘Our customers participate in many diverse and value added applications. As one of few domestic producers of 2-EHA, this added capacity further positions Dow for growth with strategic customers and establishes our continued dedication towards improving reliability’. Dow are the world’s largest producer of acrylic, methacrylic and specialty monomers. Our customers regard 2-EHA as a high value product that offers significant performance advantages, including flexibility, weatherability, adhesion, range of hardness and resistance to abrasion and oils or greases. 2-EHA is a key raw material used in the production of caulks, coatings, pressure-sensitive adhesives, leather finishing, textile and paper coatings.
