New association for leatherwear
Leathergoods companies in Pakistan have formed their own association to safeguard their interests. The Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, with Fawad Ijaz Khan as chairman, say they are facing huge problems with no repeat orders during October and November, normally the main months for new bookings.
He said that because of the tragic incident of September 11, 2001, there had been a tremendous negative effect on the export of leather garments from Pakistan. It is likely that there will be a drop of around 30-40% in the export of leather garments during October to December 2001.
