Bayer appointment in Italy
Gustavo Adrián Defeo has been appointed as global technical manager for leather dyestuffs at Bayer, based in Italy.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Defeo has devoted the first 20 years of his career to the leather industry, co-operating with different multi-national companies.
He has specialised mainly in the field of applied colour physics for leather and dyestuffs kinetics and in 1993 he received the Donald Burton memorial prize in the UK for the first psychophysical research on leather whiteness.
In addition to his professional career, he has also been involved in institutional activities: Fellow of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (SLTC); past president of the colour group of Argentina (GAC); past honourable secretary of the Leather Chemists and Technicians Society of Argentina (AAQTIC); current member of the directive committee of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) amongst others.
Since February 2004, he has had the responsibility for proposing rational colour ranges to meet the technical and commercial needs of the world leather market.
Based in Santa Croce sull'Arno, with a new dyestuffs analytical laboratory, he will also provide information on leather colour fashion trends and organise technical meetings to update Bayer's worldwide technical staff on new dyestuffs and international regulations, and applied colour science to the industry.
