Plant extension for Atlas Refinery
American leather chemical specialists, Atlas Refinery, are expanding their factory site in Newark, New Jersey.
The substantial new investment will see the addition of a purpose-built, fully-equipped pilot plant situated alongside their production, laboratory and office facilities.
Construction and equipping of the pilot scale tannery is anticipated to be completed later this year. Extra staff will be hired following the completion of the project.
The new extension is part of Atlas Refinery's overall restructuring programme following rationalisation of the tanning industry in northern America. It includes the introduction of a series of high performance, value-added leather chemicals such as a new family of fatliquors for aviation upholstery leather which are fully flame retardant.
In addition, Atlas have focused on locating staff close to major international markets.
From July, they will have staff located permanently in China as well as other key international market segments.
'This is part of our strategy to invest in the industry. We have a modern and creative approach and the investments that we are making now will help us and our customers in the future', said Craig Keyser, sales and marketing director.
