Kazakhstan production figures
Kazakhstan's National Statistics Institute report that Kazakhstan produced 23,000 tonnes of chrome tanning agent in 2004, compared with 24,200 tonnes the previous year.
They also report that Kazakhstan produced 135 million square decimetres of leather from cattle hides in 2004, compared with 100 million square decimetres the previous year. Leather production from pig, sheep and goat hides last year totalled 40 million square decimetres, as against 32 million square decimetres in 2003.
There was 5.18 million head of cattle on farms in Kazakhstan as of January 1 this year, an increase of 6.4% compared with the number on the same date in 2004.
