Turkish leather production
Turkey's State Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Turkey in the first quarter of this year was 29.4% lower than in the same period in 2004. In comparison, overall manufacturing sector output in Turkey in the January to March period was 5.6% higher year-on-year.
It was further reported that Turkey produced 1.40 million sq m of leather for clothing production in 2004, as compared with 2.07 million sq m in 2003 and 2.00 million sq m in 2002. The leather industry is reported to have operated at an average of 65% of overall production capacity in 2004, as compared with 69.7% in 2003 and 60.4% in 2002.
