China leather exports rise in first two months

24 April 2013

In terms of categories the export of fur clothing grew the most with an increase of 119%, followed by leather goods (+41%), leather garment (28%). Exports of leather shoes rose by 11%.

Overall figures were higher than in the previous year helped by rising demand in the EU and American markets lifted the growth of Chinese leather exports. The report noted that rising production costs and exchange rate appreciation also drove export values down.

Although improvement in exports took place over the first two months the industry is still cautious about the overall export market for the remainder of the year as many small and medium sized enterprises in China are still experiencing difficult trading conditions.
