4 February 2019

The Egyptian Ministry of Finance has increased the value of the customs dollar for non-essential and luxury goods to LE17.9 from LE16, as imports have risen to nearly £420 million.

This has been a large increase from the £345 million reported by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in the first eight months of 2017.

In December of 2016, a presidential decree increased the tariffs on 364 types of goods anywhere between 10% and 60%.
