Growth in leather sector boosts Rwandan economy

A 24% increase in leather output helped the Rwandan economy grow by 6.1% in 2017 buoyed by 10.5% growth in the fourth quarter. 

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr Uzziel Ndagijimana said the government was committed to creating a conducive environment that supports the economy to grow.

“This is a consecutive quarter our economy has registered double digit growth," he said. "Going forward we hope to keep the momentum”.

Yussuf Murangwa, director general of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, revealed that the sector split within the economy was, agriculture (up by 8%) industry (7%) and services (12%)
