JBS-Swift to resume slaughter following fire

28 November 2007

Spokesman Marco Sampaio said that repairs to an electrical panel that caught fire on Saturday morning were delayed due to the holiday weekend, but slaughter operations — down on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday — will be up and running on Wednesday. Local fire officials said the fire had started at 5:15am Saturday in the plant's main utility building, which is separate from the slaughter facility. The cause is reported to be under investigation. Sampaio explained that the fire eliminated electrical power needed to control certain slaughter operations. The plant slaughters nearly 6,000 head of cattle per day. Source Meatingplace.com
