Leather Law Blitz heads for Rio de Janeiro

8 June 2017

The Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) will visit nine cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro by the end of June, verifying retail labeling on leather or synthetic pieces - in accordance with the Brazilian Law 4.888 / 65 - as part of its Leather Law Blitz campaign.

By legislation, only those products made of genuine animal hide can be called "leather" and the use of terms such as "ecological leather" or "synthetic leather" is forbidden.

"Young designers who previously launched their products in small fairs in Rio, today walk the fashion week catwalks; We want to reach these very promising publics in addition to pre-established brands and stores," says coordinator Ricardo Michaelsen.

Visits to stores, shopping malls and fashion centers are scheduled, with conspicuous Leather Law Blitz labeling of both staff and vehicles.

Cities to be covered are: Rio de Janeiro, São Gonçalo, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Niterói, Campos dos Goytacazes, Belford Roxo, Petrópolis and Volta Redonda. Get informed at: www.cicb.org.br/lei-do-couro
