Tanneries and location: Bertin have nine tanneries in Brazil and one in China. They also have contract tanning facilities for Uruguay and Paraguay hides from their own slaughterhouses in both countries. Bertin is renowned as a top player in the global leather sector, being ‘the' major Brazilian processor and exporter of bovine leather products.

Production: Production capacity is 22,000 hides per day of 65% of which is supplied by their own slaughterhouses. Bertin produce wet-blue hides and splits, crust and finished leathers mainly for the upholstery, footwear, small leather goods and automotive industries. 

Tannery employees: Bertin has more than 28,000 employees, out of which about 5,000 are in the leather division.

Other information: Leonardo Swirski has a degree in business administration from EAESP-FGV. For 15 years he worked for Sadesa Brasil and for the past 9 years he has been responsible for the leather division of the Bertin Group. Bertin is focused in providing solutions in the whole protein chain and integrate vertically the bovine value chain, going from the animal to the finished and cut sets for the automotive industry. This includes fresh & processed beef, dairy products, biodiesel, soap-base ingredients and other hygiene & cleaning products, as well as pet products. Swirski believe's that Bertin are probably the most vertically integrated company in the world in this industry sector.

Bertin are one of Latin America's leading producers and exporters of animal products. It owns 35 industrial units in Brazil and plants in Uruguay, Paraguay and China, 10 of them dedicated to the hides and leather business. Throughout its 32 years of operation, the company has developed a brand recognition and excellence. Bracol is the brand name for the leather division.
