New York soon to host seven Brazilian tanneries for the most important leather and fashion fair in the US

28 January 2020

Lineapelle New York is the US fashion sector's main leather fair and will take place from 29-30 January, including seven Brazilian companies that will be showing their leathers.

Support is provided by the Brazilian Leather project, which is carried out to encourage exports of Brazil's leathers through a partnership between the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

Lineapelle NY is the starting point for US brands to develop their upcoming collections. Leticia Luft, manager of Brazilian Leather, explains that the January edition is dedicated to Summer 2021, reinforcing the concept that leather is indeed a special material that offers comfort, breathability, and temperature control for any season.

“The vast majority of Lineapelle New York's nearly 150 exhibitors are tanneries. Leather is highly valued in the international fashion market throughout the entire year as a choice that's closely linked to sustainability, thermal comfort, and quality in products such as footwear, artifacts, clothing, and interior design” she says.

This is a fair that brings together both some of the most renowned fashion organisations with new brands and designers that have their own unique approaches. The US is Brazil's second largest importer of leather (a 17.1% share, with $169.5 million purchased in 2019).
