14 January 2015

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore, Punjab, to control skin diseases among the ruminants of Pakistan.

This is the second university/industry research project between the two entities. The first project, 'Prevalence and identification of pathological conditions causing skin damages and consequently reducing its market value in ruminations of Punjab', was conducted in 2011.

Both the PTA and UVAS have agreed to move forward with a joint study to control these diseases to avoid economic loss, which is about 18% of the total value of hides and shins in Pakistan. The MOU was signed by Dr Talal Naseer Pasha PhD, vice-chancellor of the university, and Mr Agha Saiddain, chairman of the Hide and Skin Sub-Committee of the PTA in presence of the Governor of the Punjab Mr Muhammad Server and the chairman of the PTA Mr Muhammad Musaddiq.
