Senegal's leather output drops 1.4% in Q1 2018

21 June 2018

Senegal’s leather industry suffered a drop in output over the last quarter, the country’s commerce ministry has said.

The volume of leather and leather manufactured goods dropped by 1.4% quarter-on-quarter in Q1 2018 compared with the previous quarter, according to data collected by the Directorate of Forecasting and Economic Studies (DPEE).

The same period last year saw volumes increase by 16.3%.

The DPEE says the fall can be attributed to a uncertainty over a new industrial park outside Senegal - a saga that has now been resolved.
