Smit & zoon to use recycled drums

24 November 2016

From December 2016, Smit & zoon will take its corporate social responsibility (CSR) drive start a step further by using recycled polyethylene drums.

The company's supplier of polyethylene drums collects them and cleans and checks the drums thoroughly. Depending on the quality, the packaging is either reconditioned or collected for recycling. The drums are recycled by regrinding them, resulting in post-consumer resin (PCR). The mixture of PCR and virgin polyethylene ensures a high-quality product while at the same time extending the life cycle of our packaging materials.

The recycled polyethylene drums are very similar to Smit & zoon's standard drum, but contain a maximum of 65% of PCR granulate, equal to a total volume of 370.000kg granulate per year or the annual carbon emission of 323 Dutch citizens. The drum looks similar and tests prove they meet the company's quality standards.
