Escomar Italia Srl were established in 1973 by Dal Lago Gianni and soon the company built themselves a strong reputation as traders in second-hand machines. However, over the years, the company’s focus has moved away from reconditioning old machines to manufacturing new ones.
This switch in focus began in 1978 when the company manufactured their first machine, an automatic reblading machine with grinding and balancing and, today, they are the only worldwide producers of such a machine. Ten years later, the company manufactured their first throughfeed sammying machine for wet-blue, a machine that it still very successful to this day.
The maintenance of tannery machines still plays a pivotal role within the company but now Escomar only recondition machines that they are replacing with a new machine rather than renewing their competitors’ machines as they have done in the past.
‘Business is good for us at the moment and our orders are full until August’, explains Angelina Sinico, ‘although the general situation is quite difficult at the moment because many tanners are not investing in new machinery.’ Escomar export around 50% of their machines to markets such as South Korea, Vietnam, China, Russia and Brazil.
As a result of Escomar’s increased focus on producing new machinery, the company have recently unveiled their new throughfeed sammying machine PCR6 type. The machine has been designed to be simple to maintain but at the same time is reliable and strong and adheres to all the latest safety regulations. And it is fully hydraulic, with not one chain or belt incorporated into the design.
The PCR6 offers the highest pressure available for this kind of machine, with a total power output of 200 tons from two independent pressure bridges, each comprising three pressing cylinders. The machine also incorporates a self-balancing system with hydraulic valves that check the oil pressure and reduce the mechanical shocks and any problems with the rubber that covers the pressing cylinders.
The same hydraulic circuit controls the pressure, the automatic centering of the felts and the speed, thus avoiding any problems with mechanical transmissions. With the felts automatically centred on the machine, this solves the problem of manual centering. Once installed, the felts are continuously controlled by sensors and hydraulically self-regulated during the process.
The working speed can reach 20 m/minute and a hydraulic valve with a digital display regulates this. All the cylinders, even the felt tendering cylinders, are covered in rubber of varying hardness and are resistant to all mechanical and chemical agents.
The machine also incorporates a newly developed stretching cylinder with blades of different thicknesses, heights and inclinations. Machines intended for the processing of whole hides will incorporate a different cylinder to those intended for sides. The result is hides which are perfectly flat, with reduced wrinkles on the head and the flanks and some of the deformations in the centre of the hide are corrected.
