According to China Chemical Week, apparel exports will come up against the azo dye barrier. The EU has passed a document on a draft decree on banning the use of azo dyes. The move indicates that the EU will very likely pass the decree this year, prohibiting EU sales of textile garments and leather products which use azo dyes, particularly those that contact the human body and imports from a third country or region.
This technical barrier is expected to substantially hinder the Chinese apparel and dye industries. Domestic exporters are strengthening tests on supplied dyes. They need to select qualified dyes and make clear-cut technical requirements or acceptance standards for raw material supply contracts and leather processing contracts.
They are closely watching requirements set by importing countries and regions so as to avoid cargo return or destruction.
