The number of cattle on farms in Belarus on January 1 this year was 156,600, or 4.2% higher than on the same date in 2008. Sales of livestock and poultry for slaughter in 2008 were 3.4% higher year-on-year at 1.22 million tonnes.

Belarus' Ministry of Statistics reports that livestock production in Belarus in 2008 increased by 9.6% compared with the previous year, according to the Interfax news agency.
