Two new senior appointments have been made at BLC Leather Technology Centre Ltd, reflecting the organisation’s pro-active approach to the changing needs of the leather industry supply chain. Dr Andrew Hudson has been appointed technical manager and Dr Amanda Long, is now special projects manager.
After completing his PhD in 1998, Andrew joined BLC, initially working on a Leathersellers’ supported project, and has since enjoyed a range of roles within the research and testing departments. Andrew’s new role will involve the management of the testing and leather based research and development activities carried out at BLC. The newly formed technical team will enhance the expertise available to deliver effective, innovative research and offer improved flexibility to meet the changing demands of the customer in the testing arena.
Amanda joined BLC in 1992 after completion of a degree in chemistry and physics. Amanda has subsequently obtained her PhD and has been responsible for the development of restricted substance testing at BLC. Amanda’s new role of special projects manager is viewed as a supporting role which is central to the efficient management of the research and development programme at BLC. Amanda will also co-ordinate external publications and seminars and manages commercial aspects of the research activities. Amanda, currently chair of the following committees: IUC, CEN/TC289/WG2/TG1 and SLTC technical subcommittee, will also take a leading role in the management of standards on behalf of the leather industry.
