The Italian tannery machinery manufacturers, Fratelli Carlessi, are celebrating 50 years in the business this year. The business is still family owned with the current president, Duilio Carlessi and Gianluigi Carlessi, managing director, controlling the business.
Carlessi are located in the town of Urgnano close to Bergamo in Northern Italy. Carlessi family roots in the engineering business date back even further and their first general engineering workshop dates back to 1911. The company entered the sector of leather processing technology at the beginning of the 1950s, with the construction of the first frame dryer, and the first spray finishing lines were designed a few years later.
Since the company were formed in 1953 they have continued to expand and they have exported tannery machinery to over 85 countries worldwide.
Carlessi are best known for the production of their leather drying and spray finishing lines. In recent years the company have set up a partnership with engineer Giulio Tandura to form the company Linta. Tandura has over twenty-years experience in the tannery machinery business and they specialise in the production of splitting machines for the international tanning sector.
