As the textile and tanning industries prepare to be brought under environmental regulation, the Environment Agency held a seminar in Leeds to assist the industries in their applications for Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) permits.
With the July 31 deadline for completed IPPC submissions soon approaching, an audience of 80 – largely consisting of operators and trade association representatives – were offered a range of advice on completing applications.
This included key issues such as how to make a good application, how to carry out environmental impact assessments of emissions and what is expected in a land quality site report. As well as advice, attendees were presented with various useful tools, including a CD containing the relevant guidance, as well as an electronic version of the new style application template.

Operators of tannery installations having a finished product capacity of 12 tonnes per day or more, are required under IPPC to make an application for a permit to the Agency by July 31, 2002.
