The recent 92nd GDS International Shoe Fair held at Messe Düsseldorf registered 8% fewer visitors compared with last autumn. This was due to the current tense political and economic situation.

Ancillary events such as the presentations of the European Footwear Marketing Award (EFMA) and the Leather Goods Prize as well as the Shoeciety Club Night were cancelled in light of the terrorist attacks in the US.

The award ceremonies will be postponed until the 93rd GDS in the spring of 2002.

Nonetheless, it was business as usual for visitors and exhibitors unveiling spring/summer 2002 trends. International trade professionals accounted for 67% of visitors, confirming GDS’ position as the world’s largest shoe fair.

Messe Düsseldorf’s international advisory board has announced the dates of the 95th and 96th GDS International Shoe Fairs for 2003.

The events will be held from March 13-16, 2003, and from September 18-21, 2003.

Dates for 2002 are from March 14-17, and from September 19-22.
