The symposium takes place every fourth year and has emerged as a constant within the European leather and collagen industry, says Prof Michael Stoll, director of the institute. Collagen, a renewable resource accruing from modern livestock farming in huge quantities, has been utilised for leather production since living memory. In addition and more recently collagen is used for applications in the medical, food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries and comprehensive research activities are in progress at the institute.’
The Freiberg Collagen Symposium provides an ideal platform for an intensive exchange of information and experience for branch representatives from industry and science. Interest is still growing and the audience is increasingly international. According to Stoll: This fact proves that we set the right focus regarding content and target audience of the convention.’
Fourth Freiberg collage symposium
The 4th Freiberg Collagen Symposium, which took place at the Freiberg based Research Institute of Leather and Plastic Sheeting, drew more than 100 guests from twelve European nations to the institute. There was an impressive lecture programme at the two-day convention in September which began life in 1997.
