Italian bovine tanner, Conceria Zini, introduced a range of fragrant leathers during the Lineapelle exhibition held in Bologna.

The new Optima range of perfumed leathers has been developed in conjunction with the Italian leather technology centre, Stazione Sperimentale per l’Industria delle Pelli e delle Materie Concianti (SSIP), in Naples and has been particularly aimed at the upholstery leather market.

So far, six fragrances have been developed including apple and Zini are waiting for reactions from their customers before developing the concept further. ‘The fragrances can be used with any type of leather. Zini have developed these leathers in order to offer our customers something novel and different. Only time will tell if the idea takes off or not’, Panarotto Loris, regional sales manager, Conceria Zini, told Leather.

Zini were also promoting their new leather flooring panels on their stand during the fair. Part of the floor of the stand had been fitted with the leather flooring in black and brown square panels of finished bovine hide. ‘The leather panels have to be stronger and tighter than normally used in other applications as they are subjected to tough physical wear. The finish has to have a high degree of rubfastness’, says Loris.

Zini process a total of 150,000ft2 of finished leather per day from a mixture of raw and wet-blue hides. The tannery is located in Zermeghedo close to the tanning region of Arzignano. They make leather for the footwear uppers, leathergoods and furniture upholstery markets. The company are currently developing a range of new leathers suitable for the automotive upholstery sector.
