Italian leather finishing chemical makers, Syn-Bios, have introduced a range of heat sensitive pigment colours that change shade when mildly heated. The Syn-Therma series was demonstrated on the company’s stand during Tanning Tech.
Syn-Therma is a range of thermosensitive water-dispersed pigments (available in blue, magenta, black and green). The surface of the leather discolours when the temperature increases. The original colour returns as the item cools to room temperature. The new pigments were demonstrated on footwear, garment and upholstery leathers on the Syn-Bios stand.
The basis of the new pigment range is that they are coloured in the acid form and colourless in their neutral form. Colour changes are, therefore, reversible according to temperature variations.
Pigments can be mixed with Syn-Bios ready-to-use compounds for base coats (from their Compound series) or combined with acrylic resins for lighter effects (Grim series). They can also be added to their water-dispersed pu binders of the Proxy series.
