During early August the whole country appeared to have gone on holidays but just before they did a lot of hide business was done for September.
In Ireland the kill of cattle to the end of July was up by over 120,000 compared to the end of July 2005 and there is now a feeling in some quarters that there will be a much smaller kill in the back end of the year. It also appears that some European tanners feel the same and big numbers of hides were booked at the end of the month.
The gap between Irish hides and UK hides continued to narrow significantly as the effect of the anthrax problem in shipping hides to China from the UK resulted in a lot of UK hides offered to Italy.

Doubleface skins went for £4 delivered Türkiye and new season fellmongers went for £2.20 ex yard, bare pelts £1 ex yard.
