The Leather Research Laboratory’s Leather Technology Training (LTT) programme will be offered again as individual weekly sessions. The full programme runs from August 13-29, 2002 (registration fee is $2,600 for the full three week programme). Individual weekly sessions are $995 each:
* Raw to wet-blue, August 13-16
* Crust leather production, August 19-23
* Leather finishing, August 26-29
This updated, refocused and accelerated training course comprises three sections which reflect the three production phases involved in leather manufacture.
The first week, raw to wet-blue, relates hide and skin structure and biochemistry to the purposes, effects and critical control factors in soaking, liming, deliming, bating, pickling and tanning.
The crust leather section involves an applied introduction into the chemistry and mechanics of retanning, dyeing and fatliquoring, linking them to product performance characteristics and aesthetics.
This year’s course offers an increased emphasis on demonstrations and practical work. Course instructors include senior BLC-Leather Technology Centre staff who have many years of extensive industry experience as technical managers or directors at leading tanneries.
