Enrique Olcina said the following on an email: ‘I am glad to inform you that there has not been any damage to the Olcina premises in the earthquake that happened three days ago and we are also fortunate on counting all the Olcina people with us. As far as we know there has not been any major damage to the tanneries located in the Lorca area either. Our deepest sympathy goes out to our fellow citizens that are mourning and we truly regret their loss. We are confident that we can overcome this situation together’.
Lorca tanneries escape earthquake tragedy
The historic tanning town of Lorca located in the southern Spanish region of Murcia was hit by two earthquakes on May 11 in which nine residents were killed. A spokesperson for the Spanish tanners’ association said that none of the tanneries were affected by the two quakes, which measured 4.4 and 5.1 on the Richter scale although some minor structural damage had occurred. Lorca is also the home of drum and automation equipment makers, Olcina.
