Imports of leather footwear from China and Vietnam have, unsurprisingly, fallen in the first quarter of 2007 compared with first quarter 2006 due to the current anti-dumping duties in place against those two countries and imports from most other countries are more or less stable. However, imports from Malaysia, Macau and Cambodia have grown by a hefty 828%, 809% and 441% respectively. Although these are only small amounts in volume terms, Macau’s market share has risen from 0% to 4% of the EU’s import share.
The investigation will take up to nine months from the date of its publication in the Official Journal.
The Commission is continuing to monitor imports from Cambodia and Malaysia with a view to reporting back to the Anti-Dumping Committee once it has third quarter 2007 data.
