Italian leather chemical specialists, Genesis Ecotec have announced a joint venture with the Mexican finishing chemical group, Merlin. The agreement was announced during the Anpic fair held in León at the end of February.
Genesis will supply wet-end chemicals to Merlin for sale in the Mexican market. Merlin are an established manufacturer of finishing compounds for the leather industry and are located in San Francisco del Rincon, close to León. The new deal will allow Merlin to offer the whole range of leather chemicals to customers in Mexico.
‘We will supply our range of wet-end chemicals, technical support and Italian know-how to Merlin’, says Gustavo Defeo, technical director, Genesis Ecotec. ‘Our products are available for all types of leather and they are suitable for the nature of leather produced in Mexico’, he added.
If the agreement is successful, Genesis may consider marketing Merlin’s finishing products outside of Mexico although no decision will be taken in the near future.
Merlin have eight technicians and eight agents located around León to assist tanners.
