The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency have imposed a provisional 45.7% duty on leather safety boots and shoes from China following a dumping complaint by Canadian manufacturers. The duty is effective immediately and will remain in place until the agency wraps up their investigation at the end of November.
The Shoe Manufacturers’ Association of Canada filed the complaint in June on behalf of six manufacturers who say their businesses are being hurt by cut-rate imports. Dumping occurs when foreign exporters sell goods to importers in Canada at prices lower than the selling price in their own country, or at below-profit prices.
