Fawad Ijaz Khan has been re-elected chairman of the Pakistan Leather Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA) for the year 2003-2004.
Vice chairmen elected are M Saleem Ahmed, Ch Ahmed Zulfiqar Hayat and members of the executive board are Mohammad Danish Khan, Syed Shujaat Ali, Rizwan Ahmed Khan, Irfan Iqbal, Omer Yusuf, Sh Imjaz Latif, Sh Shahid Hussain, Arshad Mahr, Sohail Khawar, Hasan Ali Bhatti, Naeem Anwar Qureshi, Agha Saiddain of Royal Leather, Arshad Baig, Qaiser Mahmood Cheema and Abdul Jabbar.
Exports of leather garments from Pakistan dropped 28% during the year 2002-2003, compared with the same period a year earlier. Now the leather garment industry is finally showing signs of improvement. Exports for August 2003 ($21.68 million) showed a 3% increase year-on-year ($21.08 million).
