It is understood that Rino Mastrotto have brought the Elmo Leather company, trade name and premises in Svenljunga. Rino Mastrotto operate five tanneries around Arzignano as well as two other tanneries in Brazil and Vietnam. The company’s Brusarosco/Calbe and Mipel/Apelle plants in Italy process leather for furniture and automotive upholstery. They also produce footwear upper, garment and leathergoods leathers and process 16 million hides per annum.
Upholstery leather makers, Elmo Leather entered into adminstration after their bank was no longer willing to continue providing funds to keep the business afloat.
Elmo say that the situation has been made extremely difficult for them by a major automotive supplier not providing promised support to the company over recent months after they won a contract to supply a premium volume model. Elmo previously entered administration at the end of 2008 but the company continued manufacturing after it restructured.
Elmo currently employ 300 people.
Rino Mastrotto, President, Rino Mastrotto Group, was recently named in Leather International’s top 20 tanners listing which was published in September.
