ASTM reactivate leather upholstery subcommittee

21 November 2005

ASTM International Committee D31 on Leather has decided to reactivate Subcommittee D31.05 on Upholstery. During a period of inactivity for several years, the subcommittee was combined with Subcommittee D31.04 on Apparel. However, the past two years have seen an increase in the level of participation from people involved in upholstery leather manufacturing, so the subcommittees have again been separated. Subcommittee D31.05 has one new proposed standard in the works, WK6072, Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Leather (Rotary Platform, Double-Head Method). The proposed standard covers a type of rating abrasion test often used for automobile leather. Interested parties are invited to participate in the development of WK6072, as well as in other standards activities of Subcommittee D31.05. For membership or meeting details, contact Nancy Morrissey, ASTM International (tel: +1 610-832-9736; email: nmorriss@astm.org). Committee D31 is one of 138 ASTM technical standards-writing committees. Established in 1898, ASTM International is one of the largest standards development and delivery systems in the world. ASTM standards are accepted and used in R&D, product testing, quality systems, and commercial transactions around the globe.
