British Glove Association 2006 design competition

The British Glove Association, in association with the Worshipful Company of Glovers, has announced details of its Student Glove Design Competition 2006. The format will comprise three categories: Category 1: Design a glove for a seasonal special occasion in Autumn/Winter 2006. Students should choose from one of the following occasions: a Winter Wedding or a Christmas/New Year's Eve Ball. Category 2: Design a hat, glove and scarf set for children's wear for Autumn/Winter 2006. Category 3: Design a pair of ladies or men's leather or fabric and leather gloves for a particular winter sport or activity, for example, driving, walking, skiing, motorcycling, etc. The winners of each category will receive £300 plus a framed certificate. Category 1 and 2 winners will also receive a week's work experience with glove manufacturer Dents of Warminster and Easton Design Studio. In addition, a Silver Salver inscribed with the college name and year, will be awarded to the college judged to have contributed the best designs from the final shortlisted selection of 50 designs. The closing date for entries is March 31, 2006. The prize-giving will take place in July 2006 at a formal luncheon in a prestigious City of London venue, in the presence of a guest of honour. In the past, this guest has been HRH Prince Edward, Jimmy Choo and The Rt Hon Baroness Betty Boothroyd. Commenting on the competition launch, President of the British Glove Association, Lt. Col Roderick Morriss said: 'The aim of this year's competition is to continue strengthening ties with colleges of fashion and art in bringing about awareness of gloves and the wearing of them, in addition to increasing the profile of all the participating organisations, individuals and winning students.'
