Clariant statement on Leather Services BU separation

14 November 2012

As announced by Clariant earlier this year at the full-year-press-conference in February, the Swiss specialty chemicals company Clariant is evaluating strategic options for the Textile Chemicals, Paper Specialties and Emulsions, Detergents & Intermediates Business Units.  Managing the company's portfolio is an essential part of their profitable growth strategy.

As of now the company is also examining strategic options for the Leather Services Business Unit. It is planned for all strategic options to be implemented by the end of 2013. According to Clariant’s strategic plans, a sale is the preferred option. However no decisions have been taken.

With special regard to the Leather Business Unit, a separation planning will provide financial and structural clarity on how the Leather Services Business Unit could be organised, if it were to operate as an independent company. An entirely internal and virtual financial carve-out is in preparation, so the Business Unit could, in the mid- or long-term future, operate independently of the Clariant Group. A key strategic element of that preparedness is conducting a stand-alone simulation.
