Conference discusses leather sector training and education skills project

Industry trade associations, academic institutions and trade unions representing the textile, clothing and leather sectors (TCL) met at the Elewijt conference center near Brussels on December 12 to discuss a pan-European sector skills project. Under the banner of the 2nd EU TCL Sector Skills Council Conference, phase one of the European Union funded project was outlined and discussed.


Under the European Skills Council project a number of ISP's (Industry Skills Partnership's) from Belgium, France, Italy and the UK outlined the practical education and training initiatives designed to keep EU companies across the three TCL sectors competitive and attract young and dynamic workers of the future. Through each of the project ISP's they also outlined practical training programmes that have been used in SME companies representing textile, clothing and leather manufacturers.

Representing the leather sector, Cotance are one of the project social partners and the Italian Tanners' Association, UNIC through the ISP, Osservatorio Nazione Concia, are involved in co-ordinating some of the project objectives for the tanning industry, particularly in Italy.

Other social partners at the one-day conference include the European Textile Association, Euratex and the European trade union, IndustriALL.
