Fresh format for APLF 2002

1 March 2002

The overlapping of the two parts of the Asia Pacific Leather Fair, April 8-12, 2002, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, means that Raw Materials and Manufacturing, 9-12 (Tuesday to Friday) will be located as follows: Hall 1, 2 and Concourse 2 for raw materials Hall 3 for process chemicals and tanning machinery Atrium 2 and Concourse 5 for manufacturing equipment, components and accessories Hall 5 for manufacturing equipment, components and accessories and the new manufacturing tanners sector. Exhibitors of Fashion and Finished Products will take up the Grand Hall to be known for the occasions as the Top Style Hall showing footwear and leathergoods. Hall 7 for handbags and luggage Hall 5 for footwear and garments together with manufacturing tanners. Hall 5 has been set aside for the whole five days to cater for exhibitors with common interests in both parts of the show. Here, tanners who also manufacture leather products such as footwear, garments, leathergoods and furnishings, can display both their leathers and their leather products. The new layout should allow buyers to locate products easily. The focus region comes home with Hong Kong the first south east Asian territory to be granted the honour. Hong Kong leather and leather product manufacturers have been ardent supporters of the APLF since its inception 18 years ago. A series of activities are being co-ordinated by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). To nurture shoe design talent in Hong Kong, the 2002 Hong Kong Footwear Design Competition will be inaugurated at APLF. The competition covers fashion, casual and sports footwear and the judging criteria will be creativity, fashion content and producibility. Daily fashion shows will feature the latest collections of leather ensembles by Hong Kong leading designers Walter Ma, Rowena U, Benjamin Pun and Henry C W Lau.
