Gerber introduce latest cutting innovation

4 September 2006

Gerber Technology have introduced Pivex cutting technology designed to increase cutting speed for intricate shapes while improving cut quality. This innovative reciprocating knife technology features the ability to change direction at high rates of speed. The first GerberCutter to integrate Pivex cutting technology will be the Taurus system, the leading full-hide leather cutter in the industry. Pivex technology can cut all perimeter geometry in a single pass of the high-speed reciprocating knife. Time spent navigating corners or changes in direction is minimised providing dramatic time savings over conventional knife cutting devices. The knife is never lifted from the material while cutting through or around corners at faster speeds than previously possible. 'The amazing cutting speed of the Pivex knife allows elaborate and intricate part shapes to be cut within seconds', notes Shawn Cole, product manager, single-ply cutting systems. 'While Pivex technology will be first available on the Taurus X Series leather cutters, it will be made available on other GerberCutter systems in the future.' The Taurus X series, powered by the new Pivex cutting technology, cuts more leather faster. The Pivex knife minimises or eliminates over cuts and heel cuts on most parts to deliver the best quality available from an automated cutting system. The high-speed reciprocating action of the Pivex knife, in conjunction with the high friction table surface which minimises hide movement, ensures precisely cut parts and enables users to cut custom notch shapes including many internal and external slit, V, U and castle notches without sacrificing cutting speed or quality. 'The Taurus is the industry's most advanced system specifically developed to cut leather hides', adds Cole. 'The introduction of Pivex technology brings the Taurus X Series to an entirely new level. It is especially suited for automotive leather interior applications that typically require fast, accurate cutting.'
