4 July 2012

Three Brazilian tanneries got international attention this week due to the use of the best environmental practices and management activities. Recent audits by BLC Leather Technology Centre awarded gold and silver LWG (Leather Working Group) ratings for three Brazilian companies who are members of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB).

The achievements reinforce the commitment of Brazilian leather sector in developing the best environmental practices. These efforts are in agreement with the purposes of sustainability that CICB seek. On August 29, CICB are organising the 1st CICB Sustainability Forum, in Novo Hamburgo (Brazil) during the Courovisão trade fair. This activity will bring together some of the most outstanding Brazilian environmental specialists responsible for the development of the leather production chain. Some of the topics of the forum are traceability of cattle: a tool for environment protection, water management and sustainable business practices.
