18 September 2001

In July this year, SADESA of Argentina launched their first processing arrangements in China. The plant, Nanhai Mimosa Leathers Ltd, is located in Nanhai, a 30-minute drive from the centre of Guangzhou. This will complement the two plants already operating in Thailand and is geared to supply the demands of Sadesa's China-based customers more quickly while focusing mainly on performance leathers. The plant also has the ability to produce lifestyle leathers. As a first step towards their industrial expansion in Asia, Sadesa inaugurated the first plant outside South America in May 1999. The plant is located in Ayutthaya, Thailand; a joint venture with Bangkok Rubber Group (BRG) which is 85% owned by Sadesa. In January 2001, Sadesa increased their output in Thailand by utilising the finishing capacity of Pan Asia Leather Co Ltd, a tannery which is also part of BRG, located in Kibinburi. The finished leather produced at this plant is primarily focused on the performance footwear industry in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Sadesa are one of the largest leather manufacturers in the world, producing 17 million ft² of quality crust and finished leather per month in their ten industrial facilities which together employ 2,750 people. The company operate a global sales network with offices and commercial alliances in 18 countries in the five continents. This structure provides the means to serve customers wherever required. Their worldwide raw material sourcing operates in the major hide markets, supplying raw materials that best match customers' needs.
