Russkaya Kozha finishing plant opens in Lorca

One of Russia's largest tanners, Russkaya Kozha have opened a bovine leather finishing plant in the Spanish tanning town of Lorca. Known as Union For Leather (UFL) the plant was officially opened on May 24.


The new plant was officially opened by Igor Koskin, President of Russkaya Kozha and the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar. The new plant will finish crust leathers from the RK's Russian tannery and will also stock semi-processed hides for direct sales.

Speaking at the opening ceremony Igor Koskin commented; 'UFL will help us to work with our European clients more effectively and with European quality. Our company has considerable experience in the world leather market and our aim is the expansion of sales in Europe.'

The parent company are located in the city of Ryazan (180 km southeast of Moscow) and were first established in 1916. The new Russian tannery was built by Concerie COGOLO (Italy) under a turnkey contract in 1988. The total area of the tannery facilities is 480 000 sq m. 1900 people are employed.

They are one of the largest leather suppliers in Europe producing over 35 % of all Russian finished leather, crust , wet-white and wet-blue hides for the manufacture of footwear and furniture leathers. Garment and auto upholstery are also produced at the tannery. Each month they sell more than 850 000 sq m of full grain leather and 500 000 sq m of split leathers.
