Tandura takes charge at Carlessi
13 October 2009Giulio Tandura has sold his stake in the Italian machinery maker Linta to Gemata to become the new director of Carlessi Srl. The new company was unveiled on their stand at Tanning Tech held in Bologna, Italy on October 13.
Carlessi Srl is not directly connected to the Carlessi family which, ran Fratelli Carlessi up to the middle of 2009, although the identity of the investors is to remain private. The deal which only came about in the past two weeks includes the sale of the Carlessi brand name, all of its machinery ranges and spare parts catalogue. Talking to Leather International at the launch Tandura stated: 'It is not the best time to start a company and it will be a challenge. But Carlessi has a long history of making high quality of tannery machinery and is a well known name.' The original company was established in 1925 and around 2500 pieces of equipment are located in tanneries covering 90 countries.
Claudio Gualandris has also joined the new company as technical manager following many years of experience in the former Carlessi business and will bring his knowledge and technical skills to the enterprise which will employ around 15 people. The company have currently relocated to Arzignano from Bergamo and will be renting a unit owned by tanning machinery neighbours, Erretre for the time being.
Tandura is also the current president of Italian tanning and footwear machinery manufacturers association, Assomac, which also organise the Tanning Tech/Simac show alongside Lineapelle.
